Monthly Archives: February 2016

This week is a departure from my normal river cruises.  I have had many requests for a Hawaiian vacation, so I am showcasing a great cruise/tour for my guests.  Our island paradise vacation begins when we arrive in Honolulu where we are greeted in the traditional Polynesian way – with a warm aloha and a LEI of fresh flowers.  We are then taken to the Waikiki Beach Marriott to enjoy 3 days of paradise.  A tour of PEARL Harbor’s famous Battleship Row is included.  A visit to the USS Arizona and the impressive MEMORIAL dedicated to the 1,102 men still entombed is the highlight of your Honolulu stay.  A 7 night cruise will take you to beautiful Maui – (the Valley Island) for 2 days, Kauai – (the Garden Island) for 2 days, Hilo – island to the world’s most continuously active volcano for 1 day, and Kona – home to coffee plantations for 1 day.  I selected this cruise/tour for my guests because I have been on this cruise and it had a great itinerary.  With the two additional days in Oahu,  this is a great value for my guests.  ALOHA!

Day 1: Arrive in Honolulu, Hawaii. – Upon arrival you are greeted by a local host and taken to the Waikiki Beach Marriott for 2 nights.  The remainder of the day is at leisure to adjust to the time change and rest from your journey, or take an optional excursion to the Polynesian Cultural Center for authentic island arts, crafts, history, music, a dinner buffet and spectacular Polynesian show.  Or, a sunset cruise with dinner cruising along the Waikiki coastline and Diamond Head.

Day 4: Maui: The valley island hs been voted the best island in the world.  This tropical paradise has it all, hundreds of spectacular beaches, cascading waterfalls, jungles bursting with color and birds.  You have two days to explore Maui.

Day 5: Maui: Another day in Maui where you may want to consider an excursion to view Haleakala Crater at sunrise.  The views are stunning.

Day 6: Hilo: Our cruise takes to the Big Island where we begin our stay in Hilo. I recommend a visit to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Rainbow Falls.  A drive along the 11-mile Crater Rim will give you a unique view of this volcanic landscape.

Day 7: Kona: Discover the historic city of Kona along Hawaii’s beautiful sun-drenched Gold Coast.  The Gold Coast takes you past ancient temples, fields of coffee and macadamia nuts, and breathtaking coastal scenery.  Kona is where you will buy your coffee and macadamia nut souvenirs.  I recommend bringing a large carry-on, you will need it.

Day 8: Kauai: The “Garden Isle” is a feast of tropical forest, cascading waterfalls, golden-sand beaches, majestic mountains, and almost-daily rainbows.  One of the must see attractions in Kauai is Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific), and a ride up the Wailua River to the famed Fern Grotto.

Day 9: Kauai: Free day to enjoy the beaches or shop for those last minute souvenirs. As we leave Kauai, our cruise sails past the majestic Na Pali Coastline.  If you watched the Jurassic Park movies, you will recognize some of the scenery, they were filmed in the Na Pali valley.  This is the most magnificent scenery you will see in Kauai.

California Coast, Wine Country and Yosemite

California-here we come!  This week we take an 8 day tour of California.  We fly to San Francisco-the romantic city by the bay for 2 nights.  We see Fisherman’s Wharf, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Alcatraz with a cruise of the San Francisco Bay.  Then on to Wine Country, and yes-there is wine tasting.  A highlight will be a day in Yosemite National Park.  Then on to Monterey, Big Sur and Carmel.  The Seventeen Mile Drive is one of the most beautiful coastal drives in the world.  We visit the famous Hearst Castle, then on to Malibu to visit J Paul Getty’s museum.  We stay two nights in Hollywood, Beverly Hills where we may catch a glimpse of  some movie stars-or at least their hand prints when we visit the Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the Walk of Fame.  The famous Rodeo Drive is only a mile from our hotel, so you can shop at America’s most celebrated shopping district.  Bring plenty of shopping money for Rodeo Drive-you will need it.

What a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with a visit to one of the most romantic cities in the world-Paris, France.

This week we are on an independent tour of Paris where you will have 1 day of organized sightseeing and 4 days of on your own time to enjoy Paris the way “you” want to.  So sit back, relax and enjoy an in-depth visit to Paris.

When we arrive in Paris, we are taken directly to our hotel to meet our local host who will give us maps, information about the attractions we want to see, and answer any questions we may have.  Don’t worry, the host is always around to give us a hand if we need it.

Our first full day in Paris includes a morning guided sightseeing tour to Notre Dame Cathedral, where Napoleon was crowned emperor in 1804.  We see the Latin Quarter, Les Invalides, the Opera, and the Arc de Triomphe.  We take a drive by the Seine River and along the Champs-Elysees.  Take photos of the Eiffel Tower and top the day off with a visit to The Louvre-by the way, we get VIP access and skip the long lines.

The rest of the week is at leisure to immerse ourselves in this fascinating city.  Our local host has many recommendations for us.  You may want to visit the Normandy battlefields and the D-Day beaches; the Loire Valley; Monet’s Giverny and Louis XIV’s Palace of Versailles.  Or you may want to people watch at a sidewalk cafe, shop along the Champs-Elysees.  Perhaps catch a cabaret show.  Whatever you choose, you have ample time to “do everything on your list.”

Give me a call if you want to know more about this exciting 7 day visit to Paris at 919.708.8217 or e-mail at
