Caressed by Atlantic breezes, the vineyards that cover the rolling hills along the rivers of Aquitaine have for centuries produced France’s most remarkable wines: Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Sauternes, Medoc and Margaux are but a handful of the appellations that make Bordeaux wines world-famous.  At the region’s heart, the city of Bordeaux stretches along the river bank, inviting visitors to savor its grand architecture, tempting cafes, and superb museums.  Celebrate joie de vivre in this land of wine and oysters, truffles and cognac, as you cruise the Dordogne, Garonne and Gironde Rivers.

8 day cruise – 6 guided tours

Day 1: Bordeaux.  Fly to Bordeaux where you are transferred to your ship; rest of the day is yours to relax or explore Bordeaux on your own.

Day 2: Pauillac.  Sail along the Gironde River, docking at Pauillac in the Medoc region before lunch.  Afternoon wine country tour featuring several wine-tasting opportunities, including the area’s famous Margaux.  Explore Pauillac’s marina and Plaza Lafayette.  Pauillac is home to Chateaux Lafite Rothschild, Latour and Mouton Rothschild.

Day 3: Blaye. Blaye boasts an extraordinary 17th century citadel. Take guided tour of the citadel, then enjoy free time in Blaye or optional excursion to the town of Cognac.

Day 4: Libourne. Tour Saint-Emilion with a wine tasting of some local vintages.  Explore the town’s boulevards, gardens and shops-or an optional excursion to Bergerac.

Day 5: Cadillac. Tour to Sauternes where the area’s sweet wines are made.

Day 6: Cadillac & Bordeaux. Walking tour of Cadillac visiting the ancient harbor.  See elegant 16th century Chateau, city walls with Clock Gate and Sea Gate.  Free time to explore Bordeaux city’s restaurants, cafes and nightlife.

Day 7: Bordeaux. Tour the city center and visit all the highlights of Bordeaux including the Place des Quinconces, one of the largest squares in Europe, the Grand Theatre de Bordeaux, and several churches.  Afternoon and evening at leisure to explore the town and taste the city’s cuisine and wine appellations.  Optional tour to Arcachon on the Atlantic coast.

Day 8: Bordeaux.  Our tour ends with an optional 3 night stay in the Loire Valley or Paris.

Memphis, TN to St. Louis, MO – 8 days includes 6 night cruise plus 1 night hotel in Memphis.


Day 1- The luxurious Memphis Marriott Downtown will be your home for 1 night to enjoy all the sights and sounds of Memphis.  The next day, you board the American Queen Steamboat.

Day 2 – Memphis, TN: Board the hop-n-hop-off steamcoach for a narrated tour experience of attractions throughout Memphis.  Explore exhibits of the civil rights movement at the National Civil Rights Museum.  Visit the Memphis Rock & Soul Museum that tells the story of the birth of rock ‘n’ roll and soul music.  Stroll among the three blocks of nightclubs and enjoy live blues music along Beale Street.  Visit the Peabody Hotel to view the famous Peabody Ducks.  Visit the Mud Island River Park.

Day 3 – Steamboating: Settle into a rocking chair and let the scenery glide by.  Or join in the fun of numerous onboard activities. Your full day of leisurely steamboating on the river sets the tone for an unforgettable vacation.

Day 4 – New Madrid, MO: Relieve scenes out of the battle and siege of New Madrid and enjoy a presentation at the Hunter-Dawson Historic Site.  You’ll see the war through the eyes of local soldiers.  Visit the New Madrid Historical Museum.  Time for shopping downtown.  Other sites include Veteran’s Park, New Madrid County Courthouse, and the Hart-Stepp House Art Gallery.

Day 5 – Cape Girardeau, MO: Start your day with visits to several different houses and museums that cover much of Cape Girardeau’s history.  Riverfront Murals is a cobblestone amphitheater that provides scenic views of the Mississippi River.  Visit Old St. Vincent’s Church displaying Renaissance architecture, museums that feature architecture, furnishings, clothing and more from the Victorian era, and the Cape River Heritage Museum.  You are sure to have a memorable experience at your “Escape to Cape” visit.

Day 6 – Chester, IL: Visit many historic sites in and around Chester.  See Fort Kaskaskia State Historic Site with a beautiful overlook of the Mississippi River, view several historic homes in Chester.  Across the river is Kaskaskia Island where the Liberty Bell of the West, older than the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia is located on the island.

Day 7 – St. Louis, MO: Enjoy the day in St Louis.  Choose a visit to the Gateway Arch or maybe take in a ballgame.

Day 8 – St. Louis, MO: Disembark your ship in St. Louis.  Optional stay in St. Louis or bid your fellow travelers adieu as you make your way home from this historic journey up the Mississippi River.
