Amsterdam to Basel – Itinerary (8 days/6 guided tours/4 countries)
Visit all the highlights of the legendary Rhine in just 8 days. In Germany, see the many charming castles along the riverbanks as you sail by, tour both Marksburg castle and the ruins of Heidelberg Castle. Admire Cologne, with its awe-inspiring Dom, and experience the landscape of the Black Forest region. Explore Holland’s famous windmills and waterworks, visit beautiful Strasbourg in France. On this itinerary you see a lot-without spending a lot of time.
Day 1 – Amsterdam: Arrive in Amsterdam and enjoy free time after boarding the ship.
Day 2 – Kinderdijk: Tour Kinderdijk windmills, a UNESCO Site.
Day 3 – Cologne: Walking tour and Gothic Cathedral visit, free time to visit a local brewery and sample Kolsch.
Day 4 – Koblenz: Marksburg Castle excursion.
Day 4 – Rhine River: Cruising the Middle Rhine, a UNESCO Site.
Day 4 – Rudesheim: Evening at leisure to stroll the Drosselgasse, perhaps sample local wines.
Day 5 – Heidelberg: Half-day city tour featuring Heidelburg Castle and free time.
Day 5 – Speyer: Evening at leisure to stroll the cobbled streets; see Speyer Cathedral, a UNESCO Site.
Day 6 – Strasbourg: Walking tour featuring Strasbourg Cathedral; afternoon at leisure to shop or sample Alsatian treets.
Day 7 – Breisach: Black Forest scenery tour with clock-making demonstration; optional vineyard tour or optional Colmar excursion. Excellent place to purchase a Black Forest cuckoo clock
Day 8 – Basel: River cruise ends. Return to airport.

Day 1 – Paris – Arrive in Paris. Board your ship and free time to explore the “City of Light.” (Dinner)
Day 2 – Paris – Panoramic city tour including landmarks aong the Seine; the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Champs Elysee and Arc de Triomphe. Free evening time to visit a cabaret show. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – Conflans – Guided city tour and visit to Auvers-Sur-Oise – Vincent Van Goghs homeplace or Napoleon and Josephine’s Chateau De Malmaison. (B,L,D)
Day 4 – Vernon -Guided tour of Claude Monet’s house and gardens at Giverny or a visit of Bizy Castle. Free time to explore Vernon or take an optional excursion. (B,L,D)
Day 5 – Rouen – Guided tour of the home of Joan of Arc, visit the marketplace where she was burned at the stake. Guided walk through medieval quarter, view 16th century Astronomical Clock, visit Rouen Cathedral. (B,L,D)
Day 6 – Rouen – Full day excursion to Normandy Landing Beaches – Omaha Beach, Juno Beach, Point du Hoc monument, American Cemetery, and World War II Museum. Re-live the history of D-Day 1944. (B,L,D)
Day 7 – Les Andelys – Visit dramatic Chateau Gaillard – built by England’s Richard the Lionheart in 1196, a masterpiece of medieval military architecture. Rest of day is free to explore this charming city on your own. (B,L,D)
Day 8 – Paris – Disembark to our Paris hotel for two days. (B)
Day 9 and Day 10 – Two full days to visit the Louvre Museum, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, shopping and French cafe’s along the Champs Elysee, and cabaret shows.
Day 11 – Our Paris and Normandy Beaches river cruise comes to an end as we fly home with everlasting memories of our visit back in time to 1944 and D-Day.
